JU-LMU Exchange

The exchange program between Jimma University (JU) and LMU Munich has been promoting cooperation and knowledge exchange between Ethiopian and German medical students since 2002. The program –which is supported by the Center for International Health (CIH)–  focuses on pediatrics and gynecology and provides students the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in another healthcare system. At the heart of the exchange program is the active participation and initiative of the participants. Instead of a top-down approach, the exchange is organized by students of the LMU Munich, who have been responsible for the success and continuity of the program since its inception. The exchange program stands for low-threshold global cooperation in medical education. It differs from traditional exchange initiatives by unique conceptual features such as its student-centered focus and the complete absence of a claim for developmental assistance. By putting students first, the exchange creates a gradient-free environment that promotes cross-cultural learning and the development of lasting friendships and a professional global network.
